Physical spaces don’t only impact our emotional well-being, but our physical and social well-being as well. As a professional architect with two small children, I am passionate about creating child-friendly workspaces that are accessible to all. Here are ten spatial interventions that will help our children prepare for a lifetime of learning: lighting, child-friendly furniture, room dividers, accessible stationery, storage space, attractive posters, learning mat, workbooks, technology and time management.
With a love for Africa, and a love for children, my husband and I have taken our design and industrial know-how and come up with an adjustable children’s desk and chair that is flexible, simple and local. We want to create child-friendly workspaces in each South African home, that help our children focus on the work-at-hand, while encouraging creativity and fun.
